The Good Life
Day 342:
This is it, Conor. This is how people should live in my humble opinion. Wide open spaces, beautiful landscapes, amazing smells, and kind and friendly people, Son. The rat race is so over done. Traffic is the pits. High cost of living is a killer. It's all just not worth it in the end.
I'm at a bit of an advanced age for a first time father, Boy'O. Darn near 40 years old and you're not even 1. There are a ton of up sides and a ton of down sides to starting this late but one of the greatest of those upsides is wisdom, Son. Wisdom is unique in that it only truly comes through experience, and of course the older you get the more you experience. Well Boy'O, I can tell you this much, after 25 years of living in one of the most bustling areas of the country, I'm more than ready to get out.
Now, all that said, who's to say it actually happens. I'm not sure that time is on the horizon for us at this point, Conor. Maybe just beyond it. But a guy can dream, right? Anyhow, this is all reaffirmed for me while driving through historic Beaufort this afternoon, having a fantastic lunch at a very quaint and stylish local restaurant, meeting up with good friends from near and far, and just....... breathing Son. Something that becomes increasingly more difficult as the years roll by...
Never the less, by the time you've read this, I hope to have you in an area of the country a bit more sheltered than the grind of a major metropolitan city. With any luck and a little love, you'll get all you need from a region built on culture and tradition vs. one that's all about the all mighty greenback and keeping up with the Jones'. But who's to tell, eh? Just one more thing making this journey so interesting, and maybe forethought turned into just a bit more wisdom...
I love you, Conor. Sleep tight.
-Dad
