Day 83:
Your name is very special to both Mommy and me, Son. For a very long time we'd both had names in mind should we be blessed enough to have a child; a name for a boy and a name for a girl. And to be sure those names had been subject to some debate with friends and family, though also of course with each other. Still, we'd thought it would have been a given should the news ever come. What's more we never found out whether you would be a boy or a girl throughout Mommy's pregnancy; information we could have had simply for the asking... But we didn't want to know. We wanted to live through the mystery and make the decision on the day you were born. We wanted to 'know' what your name would be when we heard those magic words - in your case - "it's a boy!"
But given all the consideration of what's in a name, that was all before we'd visited Ireland and traversed one of the most magnificent mountain roads maybe anywhere in the World, Conor Pass. I personally fell in love with the name, both for having seen what we'd seen and also in that it was a proper, traditional, old Irish name. And after a brief discussion it wouldn't take much convincing for Mommy to fall in love with the name also... We knew, if we had a boy (and we did!) that boy's name would be none other than "Conor Daniel Yerkes". But moreover, after we'd decided on the name we began to learn all these magnificent facts about the origin of the name, the history of the name, and the meaning of the name...
Turns out the name "Conor", which has seen many spellings and is born from the old Gaelic, Conchobhar; the name of an ancient Irish High King of Conaire Mór. The name's meaning? "Lover of Hounds". Again, we learned this information after we'd decided that would be your name, and ironically we were already a household of two wonderful, loving dogs, Bruiser and Mickie. What's more, I've been the proud parent of the unconditional brand of love only a dog can give for more than 20 years... Alas, you didn't have the chance to meet my first lovely girl, Jazz, but rest assured I'll tell you all about her one day... Anyhow, there's not much either Mommy or me can understand about what you'll love in your life, but to be sure you'll spend the better part of your adolescent and teen life in the company of hounds. And I've no doubt you will love them as they love you. All you have to do is look at the picture in this post, Conor.
Conor the Lion Heart. Conor the Lover of Hounds. Conor, you'll be blessed to know just how much your dogs will love you. No matter how hard you tug on their ears...
Me, Mommy, and Bruiser and Mickie all love you, Boy'O.
-Dad
